A girl with big slippers!

It was one morning during my college days. My dad used to escort me upto my college on his bicycle. Sometimes, we also used to walk on foot so that it would give me some exercise. However, that morning was once in the rainy season.
I was sitting on the backseat of the bicycle and my dad was riding it. The street wasn’t fully coal tarred. So, it was very muddy as it had rained heavily in the former nighMy dad had taken the tow-path so as to reach college fast. But at its end, we saw the path was blocked with stagnant water collected by the rain. It was difficult to ride the bicycle through it because there was quite a big part of the path blocked. So, dad asked me to get-off from the bicycle and walk through the narrow side. I walked clumsily with him holding my hand at one side and the bicycle to the other.

It was being very difficult for me to walk avoiding to get drenched in the muddy water. I had worn a simple ‘BATA’ slipper which became slippery while walking because mud got touched by the sole of my feet. And you know what? it was churning like the ungreased old iron gate. Due to this, it wasn’t grasping my sole properly but it was moving here & there and there & here. I was choking because crossing the path nearly took my breath. At the end of the path, I saw the upper lace of one of my slippers was stuck out from the hole. I asked dad to stop-‘wait dad, my lace is stuck out. Let me push it through the hole.’ I stopped, pull my hand from his grasp, picked-up my slipper and tried to fix the lace through the hole. But it didn’t go well. My dad was already being angry and grumbling because I gave him a lot trouble passing through the path. ‘You, I say walk well. Uff! You’ll fall on the mud. Oh! You slowest tortoise. Oh,oh oh’ he grubled like this while we pass. Yet, he hold me tightly. He knew my legs were weak but he always suggested me to try to walk faster. Since, he’s a little short-tempered man, he gets easily irritated if something goes wrong.

So, at that time also, he was quite irritated that when it took me long to fix the lace, he extorted the slipper from m the slipper from my hand and grumbling in irritation, ‘Damn! This slipper’, oh gosh!, he threw that above the high wall of the path. I couldn’t do anything, my mouth were wide open seeing him throw my slipper.

‘What did you do?’ I asked in great astonishment and tears were also trying to wet my eyes.

‘No need, such damn slippers-vlippers.’ He added and extort my another slipper too and threw that too above the wall.

‘Oh! No, what kinda man are you? Now, how will I go college without slippers?’ I too started grumbling with damp eyes.

‘Go with bare foot. That’ll exercise your tender feet.’ He suggested me harshly.

Since the muddy path was already ended, he sat on the seat to ride the bicycle and commanded me to sit at the back-seat. At first I wanted to disobey him and go stubborn like babies but I didn’t do there because I worried I could get late in college. I solemnly followed his command, sat on the back-seat and placed my bare feet on the metal-step. And then dad rode on the street upto my dreamland. :-)

We reached the college-gate and I got off the bicycle. I stood bare feet on the ground and my soles ached because there were pebbles on the ground. I grumbled, ‘ouch! It hurts baba.’ Then he may have also felt pity on me out of love, he suggested calmly, ‘Well, today you wear my slippers. I don’t need them now. I can ride bare feet.’ Saying so, he took off his slippers and forwarded to me. I couldn’t do anything but just wore thuose big slippers reluctantly. Hahaha..:-D

I went college room with those big slippers tapping on the ground. I didn’t care for anyone although I was a little embarrassed.

The whole day, I didn’t talk with anyone. I simply listened to the teacher’s lecture. Once in a while, I looked down below the bench on which I was sitting and my feet were resting. There, I saw my small feet on the big slippers. I just hid my feet on the corner then.

When I remember that day, I burst in laugh. I often brag with my famly about that day. I myself get wondered now that what a simple college girl I was. I never demanded a fancy sandal to wear in college when I could walk. But now…

On that day some of my colleagues might have seen me moving around library or the restroom and would have murmured, ‘OH! A GIRL WITH BIG SLIPPERS.’ :-D
